FEATURE ARTICLE

The Secrets of the Rich and Not So Famous

As I mentioned earlier, I have been busy, soaking up all the information I can from some highly successful individuals. I recently attended a seminar in Los Angeles where I met self-made multi-millionaires whom you probably never heard of...Dave Lahkani, John Childers, and Alex Mandossian to name a few.

This was my first time at a seminar like this and although I enjoyed hearing the golden nuggets of information the speakers tossed out, I discovered that I could learn just as much, if not more, simply by observing their attitudes and habits.

One thing that I noticed over the course of three days seated in a large and chilly hotel ballroom, was that there was a surprising difference between the people in the audience and those on the stage.

The seats were filled with participants passively waiting for the secret, key, or ready-made, fill-in-the-blanks millionaire blueprint to drop into their lap. Many of them signed up for multiple continuing education "boot camps" still looking for someone to hold their hand and create wealth for them. I spoke to others who routinely made it a habit to attend seminars just like this but who generally found themselves in the same position in their career, finances, and level of success year after year.

On the other hand, the speakers all seemed to share some common key characteristics. They all possessed:

  1. The ability to take quick, decisive action
  2. The willingness to feel and look silly or stupid
  3. The courage to polarize their audience to the point where people either love them or hate them

Do you share these traits? If so, how have they paid off in the past? If not, how has the lack of them helped or hindered your progress towards success?

Do you believe that these are simply given parts of your personality and you either have 'em or you don't? If so, your beliefs might look something like this:

  • I need to consider each and every possible angle before I make up my mind.
  • Looking silly or stupid is my worst nightmare; I'd rather do/say nothing at all.
  • I don't want to offend anyone, in fact, I want everyone to like me.

I have a feeling that most of the people seated in the audience of that seminar share at least one if not all of those beliefs. And year after year they find themselves seated in a ballroom, taking notes, instead of standing on stage themselves.

Is that the future you envision for yourself?

If not, it's time to begin challenging your assumptions about who you are and how you operate.

Start next week by taking on the first characteristic of self-made millionaires, "The ability to take quick, decisive action."

First of all, write down, "I take quick, decisive action." Post it by your bath room sink. Next, open your mind to the possibility that you can complete each single project on your list in seven days or less.

This takes careful and thorough planning as well as focused, deliberate action.

Start early and see what happens. You might be incredibly surprised at the results.

See you next week.

How to "Spend" Your Summer Vacation

It might feel like summer vacation has arrived, but there is no better time than the present to crack open the books and get serious about learning what you need to know about how to grow your wealth.

Here is my Sizzling Summer Reading List:

  1. The Millionaire Maker by Loral Langemeier
  2. Start Late, Finish Rich by David Bach
  3. Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki
  4. Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill
  5. The Millionaire Next Door by Thomas J. Stanley and William D. Danko

All of these authors have their own approach and some even contradict the philosophies of the other books. Invest the time, not necessarily the money, by checking them out at the bookstore or library and determine which best suit your style, needs, and goals.
